There are certain sounds and smells that can trigger a memory for you. Some bad and some good. For me, it’s certain songs I hear that will take me back to my childhood days.
There are also certain songs though that we’re not too fond of. One’s we would rather not listen to altogether. There’s one in particular that I’m forced to hear on a regular basis and that song is Broken & Beautiful by Kelly Clarkson.
It has a good beat, so, I didn’t mind it at first, but once I listened to what was sung, I began to question it. It’s one of those typical transformational songs about how no one can change who you are. You can’t really care what others think of you, just be who you are and not try to be someone you’re not.
This is a great message for those who are just learning this lesson in life. You start to become just you. If people like you for who you are, that’s great! If not, that’s fine too. You can only be yourself. However, this song kind of takes it one step further with a chorus of “I’m broken and it’s beautiful.”
This seems to be a growing trend in recent years. We’ve realized that yes, we are fragile and imperfect human beings and there’s not much we can do about that. But it seems we’ve turned it into something prideful and that’s the part that doesn’t sit well with me. We think that it’s OK to be wrong, as long as it feels good.
Again, I agree, we are broken but it’s not a beautiful thing. We are not to embrace the fact that we are broken. We ought to try and find ways to better ourselves each and every day. Things that can improve your life and the lives of those around you. Grow into someone that can make the world a better place for us and our future generations, not keep making the same mistakes. We are incomplete and the only way we can become complete is through God.
Many people try and get through this life being incomplete and end up becoming lost. That want to try and do it all on their own and end up empty. Only God can show us the way. When we do His will and follow His ways, it makes our lives and those we come in contact with that much better.
My prayer is that we can share the blessings that we have with others. Help teach the future leaders of tomorrow. Will you join me?
