Global warming seems to be a topic that’s on just about everybody’s mind today. Very few topics can make that claim. There are some that even believe that the world is going to end in another decade or so. What is going on here? Is it true? Is the world going to end soon? Even in the Bible, it says the earth will burn up (2 Peter 3:10).
I don’t think anyone denies that Earth heats up. It gets hot during the summer months and cold during the winter months. It goes through this cycle every year. We learn about this in elementary school. So, what do people mean by “global warming”?
The advocates for this cause have since changed the title to “climate change”. Maybe to make it seem broader. But as we’ve seen, the climate changes every year so, what are they advocating? Why do they think the world will end soon?
What they’re presenting is that Earth will get so hot that life won’t be able to exist on it. Not only that but man is the one who is contributing most to our planet’s demise. They believe we’re emitting too much carbon dioxide into the air which is destroying our ozone and letting in more of the sun’s rays. Why would this be a problem? Isn’t carbon dioxide better for plant life? We should want more trees for more oxygen, no?
Now, there are some people that are all on board with completely changing the way we live to change the environment. Then there are those on the other side, like the president, who say it’s a complete hoax. They outright deny what the other side is claiming. So, let’s take a look at all of this and sort it all out.
Like I previously stated, no one is denying that the planet is in a warmer time. I hear people that claim that it’s hotter than it was in the 70’s and 80’s. We can even look at the media back then and they thought that civilization was going to freeze in a “global cooling”. Well, when you look at the records, this is true. We are in hotter times now than we were. The fact is, this is what Earth does. It will go through a cooling period, and then a warming period. It almost cycles through its own “seasons” that last longer than even a year. To go apocalyptic though and say that the world is going to end because of, say it’s just cooling, is a tad ridiculous. Earth has been going through these cycles ever since it was created and people have been panicking each and every time. Seriously, there’s no need to worry. This is just what our planet does.
The records also indicate the second law of thermodynamics. Everything is breaking down. Yes, we go through a warming cycle, but looking at those cycles, it’s actually getting colder. If we really wanted to experience hotter weather, we would have to go back to around ancient Egypt times. That’s early Bible times.
And it also baffles me that we are incredibly concerned about what we used to call global warming. And this is coming from a guy who dreads sweating. The fact is though, that warm weather is great for us. Life thrives in warmer weather. Vegetation and livestock prosper. Economies and trade flourish. We see great times when the weather is hotter.
Warm weather is also better for our health. We’re apt to exercise more as we’re not cooped up indoors. We get more vitamin D from the sunlight. And it’s better for things like our memory and blood pressure. When you’re trying to stay warm, your blood pressure can sometimes increase to higher levels. If I were to choose which one to panic for, it would be “global cooling”. Those would be the depressing times.
In addition to all of this clarity, you ever notice that most of this panic usually revolves around election time? These things usually persist in the political realm. Someone running will latch on to these concerning “problems” and tell their voters that they will find the solution if only they will get elected. It’s mostly politics, meant to play on your emotions so, don’t buy into it.
If we look back some of these other “disasters”, none of them ever came to fruition. Back in the 60’s, there was talk that the oil reserves would be depleted. In the 70’s, there was ‘global cooling’ and many thought another ice age was on the horizon. In the 80’s, there was acid rain. During the 90’s, there was talk about the ozone layer deteriorating. Finally, in the 2000’s, it was about the ice caps melting away. Again, there may be some truth to a lot of these but mostly it’s either highly exaggerated or flat out false.
I hope I shed a little light on the topic. I rarely talk about things that are so controversial. Some of them just need to be talked about though. My two cents: there’s nothing to worry about.
